INFANTS' DEPARTMENT - continued
Miss Leesley left on 31st August 1963 to take up duties at Ecclesall Infant School and Miss Winifred Bonnett became the new Head.
Father Christmas was to visit the school for the first time and give each child a present in the Christmas of 1963.
On the 29th April 1968 Mrs. L. Porter became the new Head.
In 1971 the exterior of the School was cleaned and in the November of that year the first meeting of the Governing Body was held.
In 1973 discussions were held about the reorganisation of the two schools into First and Middle Schools. It was decided that the Speech Therapy Department be found alternative premises, and that building be made available to the Middle School.
The First School would have the mobile unit in the Infant Playground and the House, which hitherto bad been the Domestic Science area for the Junior School. Alterations took place in the Infant School to make it suitable for a First School. By 1974 there were 374 children on roll.
In October 1982 the Nursery was opened, two classrooms at the end of the First School building being converted into an 80 place nursery unit staffed by a nursery teacher and two nursery nurses. Mrs. L. Porter retired in July 1982 and in September 1982 Miss M. Staton became the new Headteacher.
During the summer term of 1983 the Home Education Unit began work in the School House. A plan of minor improvements was discussed for both First and Middle Schools at this time.
Because of the nationwide fall in school rolls, January 1984 saw the First School organised into six full time classes with 151 children on roll. The First and Middle Schools work very closely together and we hope these friendly links continue for a long time to come. |
